Description SUS420J2 is a martensitic stainless steel that combines corrosion resistance with the ability to be hardened through quenching and tempering (Q&T) heat treatment. Due to its excellent balance of performance, availability, and cost, it is widely used across medical, industrial, cutting, and spring applications.

TOKKIN's annealed finish provides fully spheroidized carbides, improving machinability, formability, and hardenability before subsequent heat treatment.

Main Features:
  1. Excellent Wear and Heat Resistance
Ideal for wear-resistant applications such as blades, knives, scrapers, and precision cutting tools. Its high tempering resistance also makes it suitable for certain heat-resistant applications.
  2. Low Mechanical and Physical Anisotropy
Due to martensitic transformation, SUS420J2 exhibits lower anisotropy compared with austenitic spring stainless steels strengthened by cold rolling.
  3. Higher Stiffness and Spring Efficiency
With a Young's modulus of approximately 200 GPa, it offers greater stiffness than many non-ferrous alloys and austenitic stainless steels, allowing spring designs with reduced thickness and width.
  4. Heat-Treatable High Strength
Mechanical properties can be significantly enhanced through quenching and tempering processes.
  5. Good Balance of Corrosion Resistance and Hardness
Provides corrosion resistance typical of martensitic stainless steels while achieving high hardness after heat treatment.
SUS420J2 is commonly selected for medical blades, lancets, cutting tools, industrial wear components, springs, precision instruments, and applications requiring both corrosion resistance and high hardness.

TOKKIN supplies a variety of spring stainless steel materials in accordance with JIS G4313 and related international standards.
