SUS430 is a widely used typical ferritic stainless steel material with very good availability in the market. It is always magnetic due to the formation of a stable ferrite phase.

It is inexpensive because it does not contain nickel and is used in a wide range of applications.

It contains more than 16% Chromium, which gives it better corrosion resistance than 13Cr stainless steels, and it is easy to process because it does not occur process-induced transformation like austenitic stainless steel.

Unlike martensitic stainless steel, this grade does not become hard after heat treatment, but it has better corrosion resistance and heat resistance than martensitic stainless steel.

TDS-1 | Soft Magnetic Stainless Steel :

SUS430 is one of the most widely used ferritic stainless steels and offers excellent market availability, cost-effectiveness, and balanced performance for a wide range of industrial and consumer applications.

As a ferritic stainless steel, SUS430 contains approximately 1618% chromium and little to no nickel. The stable ferrite microstructure gives the material permanent magnetic properties, making it suitable for applications where magnetism is required.

The absence of nickel helps reduce material costs and minimizes exposure to nickel price fluctuations, making SUS430 an economical alternative to austenitic stainless steels such as SUS304.

SUS430 exhibits better corrosion resistance than 13% chromium stainless steels and offers good oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures. Unlike austenitic stainless steels, it does not undergo strain-induced martensitic transformation during cold working, resulting in stable processing characteristics and good formability.

Unlike martensitic stainless steels, SUS430 cannot be hardened by heat treatment. However, it provides superior corrosion resistance and heat resistance compared to many martensitic grades.

Main Features:

  1. Excellent Cost Performance
Contains no nickel, providing a lower-cost alternative to austenitic stainless steels while maintaining good corrosion resistance.
  2. Strong Magnetic Properties
Maintains stable ferritic structure and strong magnetism in all conditions.
  3. Good Corrosion Resistance
Higher chromium content provides better corrosion resistance than 13Cr stainless steel grades.
  4. Good Formability
Does not experience strain-induced phase transformation during processing, enabling stable forming operations.
  5. Excellent Thermal Conductivity
Thermal conductivity of 26.0 W/(mK) is significantly higher than typical austenitic stainless steels.
  6. Good Heat and Oxidation Resistance
Suitable for applications exposed to elevated temperatures and thermal cycling.
  7. High Rigidity
Young's modulus of 200 GPa provides excellent stiffness for structural and precision components.
SUS430 is commonly used in vibration motors, haptic components, consumer electronics, household appliances, decorative parts, automotive trim, kitchen equipment, shielding components, and industrial products requiring a combination of corrosion resistance, magnetic properties, thermal conductivity, and cost efficiency.

FAQ's of TDS-1 | Soft Magnetic Stainless Steel:

Q: How is TDS-1 soft magnetic stainless steel manufactured?

A: TDS-1 is produced using advanced metallurgical processes, typically involving cold rolling followed by appropriate annealing or tempering steps. Depending on the desired temper, the material may be bright annealed (BA), skin passed (2B), or left as rolled (hard), with strict quality controls to achieve precise thickness and width tolerances.

Q: What are the typical applications for TDS-1 stainless steel?

A: TDS-1 is commonly used in vibration motors, haptic feedback systems, and various consumer electronics components, thanks to its excellent soft magnetic properties and formability. Its versatility also makes it suitable for applications where stability and magnetic response are critical.

Q: When should I opt for a bright or dull surface finish with TDS-1?

A: The choice between bright and dull surface finishes depends on the intended application and aesthetic requirements. Bright finishes (BA) are preferred for visible or decorative parts, while dull finishes suit internal components where glare and appearance are less critical.

Q: Where is TDS-1 stainless steel typically exported or manufactured?

A: TDS-1 is primarily produced, supplied, and exported by manufacturers based in Japan. Their expertise ensures consistency and adherence to high-quality standards demanded by global markets.

Q: What is the recommended process for handling and fabricating TDS-1 steel?

A: TDS-1 can be easily processed using standard forming, cutting, and welding techniques. For optimal results, select the appropriate temper based on your fabrication method-BA for ease in bending and forming, or as-rolled for higher strength needs.

Q: What benefits does Grade SUS430 offer in soft magnetic applications?

A: Grade SUS430 provides a balance of good magnetism, corrosion resistance, and mechanical stability. It is an ideal choice for soft magnetic usages where both performance and durability are required, particularly in precision electronic devices.
