Description SUS631 (17-7PH) is one of the most widely used precipitation-hardening stainless steels, offering the ability to significantly increase strength and hardness through heat treatment while maintaining the excellent corrosion resistance characteristics of 18-8 stainless steel.

Available from soft solution-treated conditions to full-hard rolled tempers, SUS631 can achieve strength levels second only to high-carbon martensitic hardened steels when appropriate precipitation-hardening treatments are applied.

In the solution heat-treated condition, the material provides more than 30% elongation, allowing deep drawing and complex forming operations. After precipitation hardening, strength, hardness, and spring performance are dramatically improved.

Main Features:
  1. Exceptional Strength After Heat Treatment
Precipitation hardening enables very high strength while maintaining good corrosion resistance.
  2. Wide Range of Available Tempers
Available from soft solution-treated condition (A material) through work-hardened tempers up to EH (Extra Hard).
  3. Excellent Formability Before Aging
High elongation in the solution-treated state allows deep drawing, bending, and complex forming operations.
  4. Superior Spring Characteristics
High yield strength, fatigue resistance, and elastic recovery make it ideal for precision spring applications.
  5. Corrosion Resistance of 18-8 Stainless Steel
Combines mechanical performance with reliable corrosion resistance for demanding industrial environments.
  6. Magnetic Properties Change After Aging
Weakly magnetic in the solution-treated state and significantly more magnetic after precipitation hardening treatment.
SUS631 is commonly used for diaphragms, reed valves, high-performance springs, dental equipment, tire mold components, chains, and precision mechanical parts requiring a combination of high strength, fatigue resistance, and corrosion resistance.

While SUS631 is often difficult to source in a wide range of tempers due to limited market availability, TOKKIN can supply small-lot quantities from the softest solution-treated condition through full-hard EH material, depending on customer processing and performance requirements.

TOKKIN supplies a variety of spring stainless steel materials in accordance with JIS G4313 and related international standards.
