Description SK95M (formerly known as SK4) is a high-carbon tool steel containing approximately 0.95% carbon. It is one of the most widely used cold-rolled carbon steels due to its excellent balance of workability, hardenability, performance, and cost effectiveness.

Compared with lower-carbon grades such as SK85, SK95M offers higher hardness potential and superior hardenability, making it suitable for applications requiring greater wear resistance, higher strength, and improved durability.

Most SK-series carbon tool steels are heat treated either before or after forming to achieve the desired mechanical properties. SK95M responds exceptionally well to quenching and tempering, enabling manufacturers to obtain high hardness and excellent edge retention.

TOKKIN maintains an optimized surface roughness condition that supports high-quality heat treatment results and enables an ideal final surface finish after blackening processes.

Main Features:
  1. High Carbon Content
Approximately 0.95% carbon provides excellent hardness, wear resistance, and edge retention after heat treatment.
  2. Superior Hardenability
Higher hardenability than SK85 allows for use in demanding applications requiring increased durability and strength.
  3. Excellent Balance of Cost and Performance
Provides an economical solution while maintaining excellent mechanical performance and reliability.
  4. Suitable for Heat Treatment
Available in Annealed, Skin Passed, Hard Rolled, and Quenched & Tempered (Q&T) conditions.
  5. Excellent Wear Resistance
High hardness after heat treatment supports long service life in cutting, spring, and precision mechanical applications.
  6. Optimized Surface Quality
Controlled surface roughness enables improved appearance and performance after heat treatment and blackening.
SK95M is widely used in springs, hinges, bandsaws, Thomson blades, precision cutting tools, tape measures, horns, metal washers, spacers, and other industrial components requiring high strength, wear resistance, and dimensional stability.
