| Description | SUS316L is the low-carbon version of SUS316, an austenitic stainless steel that contains increased nickel and added molybdenum for enhanced corrosion resistance. The reduced carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation during welding and heat exposure, providing superior resistance to intergranular corrosion. The addition of molybdenum significantly improves resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and chemical attack, making SUS316L a preferred material for medical, marine, chemical, and high-purity applications. The "L" designation stands for Low Carbon. Compared with SUS316, SUS316L offers improved weldability and corrosion resistance in welded structures while maintaining the excellent corrosion resistance associated with the SUS316 family. Although SUS316L is less commonly stocked than SUS304 and SUS316, it can be supplied in precision foil, strip, sheet, wire, bar, and pipe forms, including special dimensions and small-lot quantities.
