Description SUS316L is the low-carbon version of SUS316, an austenitic stainless steel that contains increased nickel and added molybdenum for enhanced corrosion resistance. The reduced carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation during welding and heat exposure, providing superior resistance to intergranular corrosion.

The addition of molybdenum significantly improves resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and chemical attack, making SUS316L a preferred material for medical, marine, chemical, and high-purity applications.

The "L" designation stands for Low Carbon. Compared with SUS316, SUS316L offers improved weldability and corrosion resistance in welded structures while maintaining the excellent corrosion resistance associated with the SUS316 family.

Although SUS316L is less commonly stocked than SUS304 and SUS316, it can be supplied in precision foil, strip, sheet, wire, bar, and pipe forms, including special dimensions and small-lot quantities.

Main Features:
  1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance
Superior resistance to seawater, chlorides, chemicals, and aggressive industrial environments.
  2. Enhanced Intergranular Corrosion Resistance
Low carbon content minimizes sensitization and carbide precipitation after welding.
  3. Outstanding Weldability
Suitable for welded structures and precision fabricated components without requiring post-weld heat treatment in many applications.
  4. Excellent Biocompatibility
Widely used in medical devices such as stents, needles, and surgical components.
  5. Good Formability and Fabrication Characteristics
Suitable for deep drawing, bending, stamping, and precision manufacturing processes.
  6. Non-Magnetic in Annealed Condition
Remains essentially non-magnetic after solution annealing, though slight magnetism may develop following cold work.
SUS316L is widely used in medical devices, fuel cell components, precision electronics, marine equipment, chemical processing systems, bellows, diaphragms, micropumps, camera modules, and applications requiring superior corrosion resistance, cleanliness, and weldability.
