The solution heat-treated state (austenite phase) of SUS631 is soft and can be processed in various ways, but requires two or more heat treatments of martensitization and precipitation hardening to increase its strength.

Because SUS632J1 is always in martensitic phase with or without solution treatment, it can be strengthened with only one precipitation hardening heat treatment.

Solution heat-treated or cold rolled finish can be selected, Rolling finish provides higher strength, but not as high as that of SUS631. This steel grade exhibits strong magnetism in all states.

Solution heat-treated materials, although a martensitic phase, can be lightly processed because of its low carbon content and toughness.

Also, because there is little variation in strength at welded portion, it is sometimes used in applications where welding is involved, such as steel belts.

TOKKIN supplies a variety of stainless steels for springs as specified in JIS G4313.

SUS632J1 (15-7PH) Description :

SUS632J1 (15-7PH) is a precipitation-hardening stainless steel designed to provide high strength, good toughness, and simplified heat-treatment processing compared with SUS631 (17-7PH).

Unlike SUS631, which requires both martensitic transformation and precipitation-hardening treatments to achieve maximum strength, SUS632J1 remains in a martensitic structure regardless of whether it is solution treated. Therefore, high strength can be achieved with only a single precipitation-hardening heat treatment.

SUS632J1 is available in both solution heat-treated and cold-rolled conditions. Cold-rolled material offers higher strength, although its maximum achievable strength is generally lower than that of SUS631.

Due to its martensitic structure, this grade exhibits strong magnetic properties in all conditions. Even in the solution-treated state, the low carbon content provides excellent toughness and allows moderate forming operations.

Main Features:

  1. Simplified Heat Treatment Process
Requires only precipitation hardening to develop high strength, reducing processing complexity compared with SUS631.
  2. Strong Magnetism
Maintains strong magnetic properties in both solution-treated and hardened conditions.
  3. Good Toughness and Formability
Low carbon content provides toughness and allows light forming operations even in the martensitic condition.
  4. Excellent Spring Performance
Suitable for precision spring applications requiring high strength and fatigue resistance.
  5. Good Weldability Characteristics
Minimal strength variation in welded areas makes it suitable for applications involving welding, such as steel belts.
  6. High Strength and Corrosion Resistance
Combines precipitation-hardening capability with stainless steel corrosion resistance for demanding industrial applications.
SUS632J1 is commonly used for steel belts, bandsaws, mask frame springs, vibration motor components, precision springs, and welded assemblies requiring a combination of strength, toughness, and dimensional stability.

TOKKIN supplies a variety of spring stainless steel materials in accordance with JIS G4313 and related specifications.

Superior Strength and Durability

SUS632J1 (15-7PH) offers exceptional mechanical strength and stability owing to its precipitation-hardening properties. Its resilience makes it particularly suitable for applications subjected to cyclic loading or vibrations, such as vibration motors and industrial springs. This reliability allows for longer service life and reduces maintenance frequency.

Versatile Applications Across Industries

Engineered for adaptability, this stainless steel grade is commonly utilized in manufacturing steel belts, bandsaws, mask frame springs, and haptic components. It meets specialized industry needs due to its broad size range and variety of tempers and finishes, ensuring compatibility with precise project requirements.

Q: How is SUS632J1 (15-7PH) stainless steel processed for use in springs and industrial components?

A: SUS632J1 (15-7PH) undergoes precision rolling to achieve specific thicknesses between 0.030 to 2.0 mm and is then given tempering treatments such as Bright Annealed, 2B, or As Rolled (1/2H, 3/4H). These processes optimize the steel's mechanical properties, making it suitable for spring applications and other load-bearing uses.

Q: What are the main benefits of choosing SUS632J1 (15-7PH) for steel belts and bandsaws?

A: The alloy's high strength, excellent fatigue resistance, and corrosion protection make it ideal for steel belts and bandsaws that require durability under continuous mechanical stress. Its versatility in surface finish and temper further allows customization to specific application needs.

Q: When should SUS632J1 (15-7PH) be preferred over other stainless steels for springs?

A: SUS632J1 (15-7PH) should be chosen when exceptional strength, dimensional stability, and resistance to corrosion are required, particularly in dynamic or demanding environments such as vibration motors, mask frames, and precision springs.

Q: Where is SUS632J1 (15-7PH) stainless steel typically used?

A: This material is widely utilized in the production of industrial and electronic components including steel belts, bandsaws, mask frame springs, haptic feedback motors, and other engineered springs, due to its unique combination of mechanical and anti-corrosive characteristics.

Q: What surface finishes are available for SUS632J1 (15-7PH) coils and sheets, and why are they important?

A: SUS632J1 (15-7PH) is offered with bright, dull, and skin-passed (2B) surface finishes. These finishes enhance performance by improving corrosion resistance, ease of cleaning, and solderability in specific applications.

Q: How does the chemical composition of SUS632J1 (15-7PH) support its applications?

A: While chemical details are provided by the manufacturer, this alloy's blend of chromium, nickel, and aluminum promotes precipitation-hardening, resulting in a unique balance of strength and corrosion resistance-critical for high-stress spring and belt applications.
