Description SUS632J1 (15-7PH) is a precipitation-hardening stainless steel designed to provide high strength, good toughness, and simplified heat-treatment processing compared with SUS631 (17-7PH).

Unlike SUS631, which requires both martensitic transformation and precipitation-hardening treatments to achieve maximum strength, SUS632J1 remains in a martensitic structure regardless of whether it is solution treated. Therefore, high strength can be achieved with only a single precipitation-hardening heat treatment.

SUS632J1 is available in both solution heat-treated and cold-rolled conditions. Cold-rolled material offers higher strength, although its maximum achievable strength is generally lower than that of SUS631.

Due to its martensitic structure, this grade exhibits strong magnetic properties in all conditions. Even in the solution-treated state, the low carbon content provides excellent toughness and allows moderate forming operations.

Main Features:
  1. Simplified Heat Treatment Process
Requires only precipitation hardening to develop high strength, reducing processing complexity compared with SUS631.
  2. Strong Magnetism
Maintains strong magnetic properties in both solution-treated and hardened conditions.
  3. Good Toughness and Formability
Low carbon content provides toughness and allows light forming operations even in the martensitic condition.
  4. Excellent Spring Performance
Suitable for precision spring applications requiring high strength and fatigue resistance.
  5. Good Weldability Characteristics
Minimal strength variation in welded areas makes it suitable for applications involving welding, such as steel belts.
  6. High Strength and Corrosion Resistance
Combines precipitation-hardening capability with stainless steel corrosion resistance for demanding industrial applications.
SUS632J1 is commonly used for steel belts, bandsaws, mask frame springs, vibration motor components, precision springs, and welded assemblies requiring a combination of strength, toughness, and dimensional stability.

TOKKIN supplies a variety of spring stainless steel materials in accordance with JIS G4313 and related specifications.
