Description SUS316 is an austenitic stainless steel developed by increasing the nickel content and adding molybdenum to the standard SUS304 composition. These alloying additions significantly enhance corrosion resistance, particularly in chloride-containing environments and marine applications.

The addition of molybdenum improves resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and chemical attack, making SUS316 one of the most widely used stainless steels for medical, marine, chemical, and high-corrosion environments.

Although less commonly stocked than SUS304, SUS316 offers superior corrosion performance and can be supplied in precision strip, foil, sheet, and special dimensions, including small-lot quantities.

Main Features:
  1. Superior Corrosion Resistance
Enhanced resistance to seawater, chlorides, chemicals, and aggressive industrial environments compared with SUS304.
  2. Molybdenum-Alloyed Composition
Molybdenum addition improves pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in demanding applications.
  3. Excellent Biocompatibility
Frequently used in medical devices such as needles, stents, and implant-related components.
  4. Good Formability and Weldability
Suitable for deep drawing, precision forming, welding, and fabrication processes.
  5. Available in Multiple Tempers
Offered in annealed and work-hardened conditions to satisfy a wide range of application requirements.
  6. Non-Magnetic in Annealed Condition
Remains essentially non-magnetic when solution annealed, though slight magnetism may develop after cold working.
SUS316 is widely used for medical devices, fuel cell components, precision electronic parts, marine equipment, chemical processing systems, bellows, diaphragms, micropumps, camera modules, and applications requiring exceptional corrosion resistance.

TOKKIN can supply SUS316 in foil, strip, and sheet forms, including special dimensions and small-lot production to meet demanding precision manufacturing requirements.
