TE-2 is our original steel grade.

It is an improved grade of alloy tool steel SKS81 with improved hardenability by adjusting the composition and strictly controlling the manufacturing history, and has finer carbides to improved sharpness and wear resistance.

It is used for razor blades and other high grade blades.

TE-2  (Equivalent SKS81) Description :

TE-2 is a proprietary alloy tool steel developed by TOKKIN as an enhanced version of SKS81. By optimizing the chemical composition and strictly controlling the manufacturing process, TE-2 achieves improved hardenability, finer carbide distribution, superior sharpness, and enhanced wear resistance compared to conventional SKS81 materials.

The refined microstructure enables the material to maintain a sharper cutting edge for longer periods, making it particularly suitable for precision cutting applications where blade performance and durability are critical.

TE-2 is widely used in the production of premium cutting tools, razor blades, replacement blades, long industrial blades, and other high-grade blade applications requiring excellent edge retention and wear resistance.

Main Features:

  1. Enhanced Hardenability

Improved composition control provides better hardening performance than conventional SKS81-equivalent materials.

  2. Superior Sharpness

Fine carbide structure allows the blade edge to achieve excellent cutting performance and precision.

  3. Excellent Wear Resistance

Improved carbide refinement increases service life and reduces edge wear during use.

  4. High Strength and Rigidity

High Youngs modulus and strong mechanical properties support dimensional stability in demanding applications.

  5. Suitable for Heat Treatment

Available in annealed, skin-passed, hard rolled, and quenched & tempered (Q&T) conditions to meet various manufacturing requirements.

  6. Ideal for Premium Blade Applications

Specifically developed for razor blades, industrial cutting tools, and other applications where long-lasting sharpness is essential.

TE-2 provides an excellent balance of hardness, wear resistance, cutting performance, and durability, making it a preferred material for manufacturers seeking higher-performance alternatives to conventional SKS81 tool steel.

Versatile Grade for Precision Applications

TE-2 (Equivalent SKS81) combines toughness and wear resistance, making it exceptional for high-precision tools and dies. Its adaptability across multiple tempers and finishes allows for optimal performance in manufacturing, ensuring tight tolerances and long service life in demanding environments.

Customizable to Your Process Needs

Available in a broad range of thicknesses and widths, TE-2 can be tailored to specific requirements. The choice between annealed, skin passed, as rolled (hard), or Q&T tempers ensures the material suits processes like stamping, cutting, and forming, enhancing efficiency and quality.

FAQ's of TE-2 (Equivalent SKS81) | Alloy Tool Steel:

Q: How is TE-2 (Equivalent SKS81) tool steel typically used in industry?

A: TE-2 is commonly used for making precision cutting tools, metal forming dies, and general tool parts due to its excellent hardness and wear resistance. Its surface finishes and tempers make it ideal for applications demanding a high degree of dimensional accuracy and durability.

Q: What is the process for selecting the right temper and finish for TE-2 alloy steel?

A: Selection depends on your application: annealed temper is chosen for ease of machining and further heat treatment, while as rolled (hard), skin passed, or Q&T are selected for applications needing immediate hardness or specific surface characteristics. Bright and dull finishes cater to aesthetic or technical needs.

Q: When should you choose the 'Q&T' temper for TE-2 steel?

A: 'Q&T' (Quenched and Tempered) temper is preferred when high strength and toughness are required right off the production line, especially for working parts that experience heavy wear or impact. This saves time by eliminating extra heat treatment steps.

Q: Where is TE-2 (Equivalent SKS81) manufactured and exported from?

A: TE-2 (Equivalent SKS81) is manufactured and supplied from Japan, ensuring consistent quality and adherence to international standards. It is exported globally by recognized manufacturers and suppliers.

Q: What are the benefits of choosing TE-2 over other tool steels?

A: TE-2 offers a reliable balance of hardness, toughness, and wear resistance, which translates to longer life for tools and dies. Its versatility in form, thickness, and temper lets manufacturers maximize productivity while meeting specific application requirements.

Q: How should TE-2 alloy steel be processed to maintain its mechanical properties?

A: Proper handling includes selecting the correct temper for your operation and maintaining controlled forming and machining processes. For best results, refer to technical datasheets or consult the supplier regarding the chemical composition and recommended heat treatments.
